Capacity planning is about anticipating future demand and sizing resources so service levels can be met. It looks at how many users or transactions will occur, how workloads will grow, and what the system needs to handle that load while staying within defined performance and availability targets. By forecasting demand and aligning capacity with the agreed SLAs, you ensure the right amount of resources are available to prevent outages and keep response times and throughput within expected limits.

Archived data or marketing budgets don’t directly address readiness of resources to meet service levels: archiving is about storage management, not ensuring performance; marketing budgets affect demand, not the ability to supply resources; and reducing security controls neither improves capacity planning nor reliability. The key idea is matching forecasted demand with sufficient capacity to avoid outages and meet SLAs.
